Today, literature becomes very important in our schools. Many teachers use literature in the classroom to work different curriculum contents. Literature helps us work on the 4 language skills (speaking, reading, writing, enumerating) and the language areas (vocabulary, grammar ...).
There are different reasons why we have to use literature in the classroom:
The first is that literature is an authentic material. We can work with them this source of untapped language. Literature encourages peer interaction and even with the teacher. It is a way to share feelings, sensations, etc.
Literature awareness to students in language. Students who are in the custodian in the rules of language use.
In addition to teaching curricular content, literature instills values and skills in a transversal way. And last and not least, literature motivates students. It is a way to get motivated with literary and cultural resources.
We have websites such as the British council that offers us different materials and resources to work literature in the classroom.
